Choose a coast. Watch the forecast develop.

Each small dot marks the real coastal location. Its connected offshore label shows the forecast value without hiding a neighbouring place.

The dots mark each coast. On a smaller screen, only the place you select shows an expanded forecast label.

HOW TO READ IT

A better first glance—not a green light to enter.

01

Start with energy

Wave height and period indicate how much offshore energy is approaching, but not the exact breaking wave at a beach.

02

Follow direction

Headlands, islands and beach orientation decide whether a swell reaches a particular break or passes it by.

03

Finish at the beach

Check tide, wind, currents, access, lifeguard status and local warnings before deciding whether to enter.

LIVE PRAIA DO NORTE WATCH

When could Nazaré turn big?

A seven-day travel-planning signal built from hourly offshore wave height, swell period, direction and coastal wind.

BEFORE YOU ENTER

The forecast starts the conversation. It does not finish it.

Portugal’s coastline changes quickly between beaches. Treat every unfamiliar break as a new place, even when the offshore numbers look familiar.

01

Check the actual beach

Look at the tide, wind, currents, access, lifeguard status and any local warning before entering. Offshore wave height is not breaking-wave height.

02

Ask someone local

A nearby surf school or experienced local surfer can explain hazards that a model cannot show, including rocks, rips, channels and safe exit points.

03

Know when to watch

At Nazaré and other exposed coasts, the safest plan may be to stay on an established viewpoint. Respect barriers, closures and maritime authority instructions.
