A new student-housing search tool brings scattered options into one place
DECO PROteste has added free tools that bring together accommodation and municipal-support information for students living away from home. They can widen a shortlist, but each room, residence and support still needs its own check.

What the search tools add
DECO PROteste's student-housing guide now points to two free tools on querocasa.pt. One helps identify accommodation offered through higher-education institutions. The other shows municipalities that have student accommodation or support programmes.
That is useful because the answer is not always a private room. Depending on the town and the student's circumstances, university residences, youth hostels, municipal schemes or shared housing may provide another route.
University rooms are a separate application
Most institutional residences are managed by the university or polytechnic. Places are limited and students with greater financial need are generally prioritised. The application is normally made through the institution after enrolment rather than through a general property advert.
Check the institution's own dates, campus, price, what is included and the actual check-in date. A place shown in a national search tool is not the same as an allocation in your name.
Housing support depends on the student
A displaced student with a higher-education grant may qualify for an accommodation supplement. Distance is important, but public-transport time, regularity, timetable compatibility and mobility needs can also be relevant in some cases.
The support route and amount should be confirmed with the institution's social-action service. Do not sign a rental commitment on the assumption that a grant or supplement will cover it until eligibility and timing are clear.
Private rooms still require ordinary checks
A platform can help discover an option; it cannot inspect the room or prove that the person asking for money is entitled to rent it. Ask for the address, total price, deposit, term, utility arrangement and written contract.
If the search must begin from abroad, use temporary accommodation or a trusted local viewing where possible. Pressure to pay for a viewing, refusal to identify the property or a price far below comparable rooms are reasons to stop.
