IN BRIEF

The warnings describe conditions that may develop locally; the live IPMA map and local civil-protection advice should guide journeys and outdoor plans.

  • Mainland warning periods include a risk of thunderstorms, intense local rain, hail and strong gusts.
  • The Eastern Azores remain under an orange rain warning this morning, followed by yellow.
  • Warnings can change during the day, so check the place and time of your journey.
01

The risk differs by region

IPMA's early-morning position places several inland mainland districts under yellow thunderstorm warnings. The published risk includes localized downpours of 10 to 20 millimetres in one hour, hail smaller than two centimetres and gusts of 70 to 90 kilometres per hour.

In the Azores, the Eastern group remains under an orange rain warning into this morning and the Central group under yellow. Other districts and island groups may be green even while conditions nearby are unsettled.

02

Use the live warning before setting out

Avoid flooded roads and exposed high ground during thunderstorms. Postpone an outdoor activity if the local warning, lightning or drainage conditions make the route unsafe.

Check IPMA again close to departure and follow municipal or regional civil-protection instructions. A warning level is not a prediction that every place in the area will experience the same conditions.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Check the current IPMA warning for the exact district or island group.

  2. 02

Allow for local disruption and avoid floodwater.

  3. 03

Follow Civil Protection and transport-operator updates.
