Archived 12 September 2026Enforcement will be part of normal travel this week, but the safety message extends beyond avoiding a fine: choose a speed that is legal and appropriate for traffic, visibility and road conditions.
- The campaign runs from 13 to 19 October and is the tenth of eleven planned national road-safety campaigns for 2026.
- Five joint awareness and enforcement actions are planned on the mainland.
- ANSR says speed-related crashes caused 154 deaths and 563 serious injuries from 2023 to 2025.
The campaign combines education and policing
ANSR will lead awareness activity while GNR and PSP carry out enforcement in their areas of responsibility. The five announced joint actions do not represent every speed check that may occur during the week.
A posted limit is a maximum, not a target. Rain, glare, congestion, road works and vulnerable road users may require a lower speed.
Plan the journey rather than recovering time
Leave a margin for school traffic, tolls, charging, parking and road works. Trying to recover a late departure on the road increases both stopping distance and the severity of a collision.
Check the vehicle, secure children and luggage, and keep attention away from the phone. A lawful speed does not compensate for fatigue, distraction or unsafe following distance.
What you can do now.
- 01
