Archived 12 September 2026The forecast is not a warning for every district, but it is a reason to check local conditions before driving, walking or planning an outdoor event.
- Showers are expected and may be accompanied by thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon.
- Lisbon and Porto may both see afternoon thunderstorms, while conditions will vary locally.
- West-coast waves of 1.5 to 2 metres are expected to ease to 1 to 1.5 metres.
An unsettled day, not the same weather everywhere
IPMA's national forecast describes periods of very cloudy sky and showers, with the possibility of thunderstorms most relevant during the afternoon. Maximum temperatures are expected to fall slightly.
For Lisbon, showers and a possible afternoon thunderstorm are forecast. Porto may also see an afternoon thunderstorm. A national description cannot establish the exact timing or intensity in a particular town.
Check the live position before committing
West-coast waves are forecast at 1.5 to 2 metres before easing. On the south coast, waves from the southeast are expected to remain below 1 metre. Conditions can still differ by beach and exposure.
Use IPMA's local forecast and warning map close to departure. Do not cross floodwater, and change an exposed or water-based plan if lightning, heavy rain or local authority advice makes it unsafe.
