Regulated electricity tariffs changed on 1 October
ERSE's quarterly tariff update now applies to regulated-market electricity and related social and supplementary tariffs across mainland Portugal and the islands.

Archived 12 September 2026The effect on a household depends on its supplier, tariff, power level and consumption; a regulated-market update is not the same as every retail contract changing by one percentage.
- The quarterly tariff update took effect on 1 October.
- It applies directly to regulated-market tariffs and related tariff components.
- Liberalized-market customers need to read their own supplier notice and contract.
First identify the contract
ERSE publishes separate regulated tariffs for mainland Portugal, the Azores and Madeira. Households on a supplier-of-last-resort tariff see the regulated update directly; market offers can pass through regulated network components differently under their contract.
A representative bill change is not a promise about one address. Consumption, contracted power, time-of-use option and social-tariff eligibility all matter.
Read the next bill line by line
Check the supplier name, tariff, billing period, meter readings and contracted power. Compare the same number of days and actual consumption before concluding that a price changed incorrectly.
Use ERSE's comparison tools for like-for-like offers and check loyalty, notice and service terms before switching.
What you can do now.
- 01
Confirm whether the contract is regulated or market-based.
- 02
Compare bills using the same period and consumption.
- 03
Check all contract terms before changing supplier.
