A private complaints tracker records a 31% rise in public-transport reports

Delays remain the main issue in Portal da Queixa data, while safety, hygiene and travel conditions take a larger share. The figures describe one private platform, not every complaint made in Portugal.

IN BRIEF

Passengers can use the signal to plan more cautiously, while reporting a specific problem through the operator and the official complaints system when formal follow-up matters.

  • Portal da Queixa counted 1,181 collective-passenger-transport complaints to 21 August 2026, compared with 902 in the same period of 2025.
  • Delays and punctuality represented 66% of those reports; safety, hygiene and travel conditions represented 22%.
  • The dataset is a private-platform sample and should not be read as a complete national complaints total.
  • The official complaints book and the transport regulator remain the appropriate route for a formal sector complaint.
01

What the figures do and do not show

The private platform’s comparison shows a rise from 902 to 1,181 complaints over the same part of two consecutive years. It also shows that punctuality remains the dominant issue, while the share concerning safety, hygiene and travel conditions rose from 15% to 22%.

These figures are useful as a warning signal, not a national performance measure. They exclude complaints made only to an operator, through the official complaints book or directly to the Autoridade da Mobilidade e dos Transportes.

02

Build a complaint that can be checked

Record the date, scheduled and actual time, route, stop, vehicle or service number and the practical consequence. Keep the ticket, screenshots and any operator message rather than relying on a general description of a bad journey.

Contact the operator first where immediate help or a refund is needed. For a formal record, use the Livro de Reclamações. The transport regulator explains that it receives and analyses complaints concerning operators in the mobility and transport markets.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Keep the ticket and record the exact route, time and service number.

  2. 02

Ask the operator for the immediate remedy or refund that applies.

  3. 03

Use the official complaints book when a formal record is needed.
