Pink October campaign puts breast screening and early diagnosis in focus
The Portuguese Cancer League is running awareness events throughout October and seven simultaneous Central-region walks on 10 October.

Archived 12 September 2026Awareness activity does not replace clinical advice; eligible women receive screening invitations through the organized programme and should check their own health-service route.
- The campaign promotes prevention, awareness of changes and early diagnosis.
- The organized screening programme generally invites registered women aged 45 to 74.
- Walks take place on 10 October in Aveiro, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Covilhã, Guarda, Leiria and Viseu.
Screening and symptoms are different routes
The Cancer League's screening programme works with primary care and uses fixed and mobile units. Invitations depend on age, health-centre registration and the programme's local schedule.
Someone who notices a new breast change should seek clinical advice rather than wait for a routine screening invitation. Screening is for people without symptoms and does not rule out every cancer.
October events support awareness
The Pink October calendar includes walks and local activities across the country. The seven Central-region walks called Small Steps, Big Gestures start at 15:00 on 10 October, with Coimbra also hosting a 10-kilometre run.
Check the official event page for registration, meeting points and accessibility. Participation supports awareness but does not create an individual medical assessment.
