IN BRIEF

Minimum services protect urgent and indispensable care, but they do not guarantee normal appointments, tests or administrative work at every facility.

  • The DGERT agreement covers ULS Arrábida, ULS Lezíria, ULS São José and ULS Almada-Seixal.
  • The presence of minimum services means disruption can still occur outside protected activity.
  • Patients should not cancel care solely on the basis of the national notice; the facility must confirm the individual appointment.
01

A strike with agreed minimum services

DGERT records an agreement between the parties on the minimum services and staff needed during the 9 October stoppage. The operational effect can differ by hospital, centre, profession and shift.

An agreed minimum-service framework does not mean that routine activity will run normally. It also does not establish that every consultation or procedure will be cancelled.

02

Check the specific service

If an appointment is time-sensitive, contact the hospital or health centre through its official channel and check any message in the patient portal. Leave extra time for reception, telephone and administrative delays.

For urgent illness, use the appropriate clinical route and do not postpone emergency care because of a strike notice. SNS 24 can advise on non-life-threatening symptoms; call 112 for a life-threatening emergency.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Confirm the individual appointment with the relevant facility.

  2. 02

Keep prescriptions and essential medicine arrangements current.

  3. 03

Use SNS 24 or 112 according to the urgency of the situation.
