Diesel is expected to fall more than petrol this week
Industry estimates point to a fall of about six cents a litre for simple diesel and about two cents for simple 95 petrol from Monday, although each station sets its own price.

Archived 12 September 2026Drivers may see some relief after recent rises, but the useful comparison is the live pump price near the journey rather than a national forecast.
- The reported changes are market estimates, not a fixed national tariff.
- Simple diesel is expected to fall by roughly six cents per litre.
- Simple 95 petrol is expected to fall by roughly two cents per litre.
- The DGEG price portal shows prices reported by individual stations.
What to expect at the pump
Sector reporting published before the new week points to a larger reduction for diesel than for petrol. The estimate reflects wholesale markets and other pricing inputs, but retailers remain free to set their own pump prices.
That means the movement may not appear everywhere at the same time or by exactly the same amount. Motorway stations, local independents and supermarket forecourts can show materially different totals for the same tank.
Compare the price you can actually use
Check the official DGEG station-price portal before a long detour. A cheaper litre can be cancelled out by the fuel, tolls and time needed to reach the station.
If household cash flow is tight, budget from the displayed pump price and keep the receipt. Treat this week's estimate as a direction of travel, not a promise about the final bill.
