Portugal has adjusted the fuel-tax discount for the week ahead
The temporary ISP discount will shrink from 31 August because the Government expects petrol and diesel prices to fall. The adjustment means the fall at the pump may be smaller than the wholesale movement alone suggests.

Why the headline forecast changed during Friday
An early market estimate pointed to a sharp fall in diesel and a small rise in petrol. Later, the Government published the tax adjustment and said it expected both fuels to become cheaper. Reducing the temporary ISP discount gives back part of the expected market fall through higher tax than would otherwise apply.
The two statements therefore measure different things: one estimated the wholesale movement before the final tax decision, while the portaria changed the tax component. Neither statement fixes the price that every filling station must display.
How to check the price that matters
Use the DGEG fuel-price portal to compare recently reported station prices for the fuel, municipality and route you actually use. Check the timestamp because a low listed price may have been reported before the weekly change or may depend on a loyalty discount.
For a business journey, keep the receipt and compare the tax-inclusive price actually paid. For household budgeting, treat the coming change as a direction of travel, not a guaranteed saving per tank.
