IN BRIEF

Affected pensioners may see a lower monthly amount and may be asked to repay overpayments. The individual CGA notice—not the national average—determines one person's case.

  • The disclosed average monthly correction is €93.31 gross, but individual amounts can differ.
  • The minister said repayment arrangements would be agreed with affected people.
  • A request for money should be verified directly with CGA before any payment is made.
01

A technical error affecting newly awarded pensions

The minister said an application-parameter error affected 2,937 Caixa Geral de Aposentações pensions awarded during four months. The pensions had been set above the amount produced by the applicable legal calculation.

The reported €93.31 is an average gross monthly reduction, not a standard deduction for every person. The correction, overpayment period and any amount requested back should be set out in the pensioner's own official notice.

02

Verify the case before agreeing a repayment

Anyone receiving a letter should compare its pension number, dates, corrected calculation and repayment proposal with the record in the official CGA channel. Do not transfer money because of an unsolicited email, text message or telephone call.

If the calculation or repayment terms are unclear, request a written breakdown and available arrangement. A pensioner who disputes the legal basis or cannot assess the consequences should seek independent advice before accepting terms.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Check the official CGA notice and pension record.

  2. 02

Request a written calculation and repayment schedule if any figure is unclear.

  3. 03

Verify payment instructions directly with CGA and keep every document.
