IN BRIEF

The figures describe national price movement, not the fare on a particular route, so travellers still need a live comparison for the exact dates and baggage they require.

  • Portugal's air-passenger prices rose 1% year on year in August.
  • The EU average fell 0.4% over the same period.
  • Package-holiday prices in Portugal rose 14.3%, compared with 3.2% across the EU.
  • Consumer-price indices do not quote or predict an individual booking.
01

Portugal moved differently from the EU average

The harmonised consumer-price data show a small annual increase for passenger air travel in Portugal while the wider EU measure edged down. The gap was much larger for package holidays, where Portugal recorded a double-digit annual increase.

These indices combine many purchases and routes. They can show direction across the market, but they do not separate a weekend fare to one city from a long-haul ticket, school-holiday travel or an itinerary with luggage.

02

Price the journey you will actually take

Compare the full cost on the same dates, including baggage, seat selection, transfers and cancellation terms. A low headline fare can be poor value if the airport or flight time creates another hotel night or expensive onward travel.

For a move or essential appointment, value flexibility and connection time as well as price. A statistical rise is useful budget context, not a reason to rush into a non-refundable booking.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Compare complete trip costs on matching dates.

  2. 02

Check change, cancellation and baggage terms before paying.

  3. 03

Keep a contingency for school holidays and fixed-date travel.
