Hospital do Divino Espírito Santo now has a fifth-generation surgical robot, described by RTP Açores as the first of its type installed in Portugal. The investment forms part of the modernisation of the regional health service.
The technology can assist surgeons with controlled, precise movements during suitable procedures. The robot does not operate independently and it is not appropriate for every operation or patient.
What patients should expect
Installation is an important capacity milestone, but the public announcement does not set out the specialties, operating schedule or number of patients who will use the system first.
