What has been announced
Transavia plans to connect Brussels Airport with Ponta Delgada from the 2027 summer aviation season. The route forms part of the airline's new Brussels base, which is due to start with four aircraft.
The same announcement includes Porto at three flights a week and new services to Greek destinations. For São Miguel, the useful confirmed point is the planned direct connection; a complete timetable was not yet set out in the public report.
Why it matters for the islands
A direct flight can remove a mainland connection and widen access to Belgium and neighbouring countries. It may also bring another carrier into a market where seasonal capacity and route changes have a noticeable effect on residents and tourism businesses.
That does not guarantee low fares or year-round service. Summer aviation routes can be seasonal and the practical value depends on the days, times, baggage rules and total price eventually published.
Wait for a bookable schedule
Do not build a non-refundable 2027 itinerary from an announcement alone. Check the carrier's booking system for the operating dates, flight number and terms, then compare the complete journey with alternatives through Lisbon, Porto or another European hub.
If the trip involves a separate onward ticket, allow for disruption risk and baggage collection. A direct flight to Brussels may still need rail or road time to reach the final destination.
