IN BRIEF

People travelling, working outdoors or heading into hills and exposed areas should check the live district warning before leaving and allow for local disruption.

  • Yellow warnings cover parts of northern and central mainland Portugal for rain or thunderstorms on 26 August.
  • A yellow warning means risk for weather-sensitive activities; it is not a declaration that severe conditions will occur everywhere.
  • The warning map is updated, so the district and time window should be checked again before travel.
01

Where the warning applies

IPMA’s morning warning table includes Aveiro, Braga, Bragança, Porto, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu, with warning periods varying by district and hazard. Some districts are flagged for heavy showers, thunderstorms or both.

The table is time-specific. A green district later in the day does not mean that roads are already dry or that a local shower cannot occur; it means no district-level warning is in force for that period.

02

Plan around rapid local changes

Thunderstorms can create short, intense rainfall, poor visibility and surface water on roads. Slow down, increase following distance and avoid entering a flooded road or underpass when the depth is uncertain.

For a hike, outdoor event or long drive, check the current IPMA warning and local civil-protection notices shortly before departure. Call 112 only for an emergency.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Check the current IPMA warning for the district and travel time.

  2. 02

Allow extra time and avoid flooded roads or underpasses.

  3. 03

Recheck local civil-protection advice before an outdoor activity.
