IN BRIEF

The figures describe last year's system as a whole. They do not change eligibility rules or predict how long an individual claim will be accepted or paid.

  • Recipient numbers rose 9.4% from 2024 to around 21,800.
  • Total sickness-benefit payments rose 11.2% to €38.9 million.
  • Average processed days per recipient fell by three to 68.
01

The update is retrospective

Madeira's statistics authority has added 2025 data to its social-protection series. The totals help show demand and expenditure across the region but do not describe the medical or employment circumstances of each recipient.

A processed-day average is not a guaranteed waiting period or benefit duration. Individual certification, contribution records and Social Security decisions remain decisive.

02

Current claims still follow current rules

A worker who is ill should follow the current medical-certification and employer-notification process and check the claim in Segurança Social Direta. Historical regional totals do not submit or approve a claim.

If a payment or decision appears wrong, use the official Social Security contact route and keep medical, employment and submission records. Do not send credentials in response to an unsolicited message.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Use Segurança Social Direta to check an individual claim.

  2. 02

Keep certification and submission records together.

  3. 03

Treat the statistics as context, not a new entitlement rule.
