IN BRIEF

Residents and visitors should plan around heat exposure today and then recheck the yellow warnings that continue into Saturday.

  • The orange warning is scheduled to end at 18:00 on Friday.
  • Yellow heat warnings continue in parts of the archipelago afterwards.
  • Monte recorded 34.3°C on Thursday, its highest value of the year.
  • A station record is not the forecast for every location or elevation.
01

The warning changes through the day

IPMA's latest timeline keeps the north coast, south coast and Porto Santo at orange level until 18:00, then moves those areas to yellow. Mountain areas are also under a heat warning.

Warning times are published in UTC. Conditions vary sharply with altitude, exposure and cloud, so consult the zone where you will actually be.

02

Reduce avoidable heat exposure

Move strenuous outdoor activity away from the hottest hours, drink regularly and do not leave a child, older person or animal in a parked vehicle. Check on people who may struggle to cool down.

For symptoms or personal medical risk, use health guidance rather than a general forecast. Call 112 for an emergency and recheck official warnings before a mountain or long road journey.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Check the IPMA warning zone and expiry time for your location.

  2. 02

Move strenuous plans out of the hottest period.

  3. 03

Use SNS 24 for non-emergency health advice or 112 in an emergency.
