Archived 12 September 2026This is a procurement milestone, not a new opening date or proof that construction has restarted.
- The new bid deadline is 13 October.
- The tender covers the third construction phase.
- Its published base price is €415 million.
- No hospital opening date follows automatically from the deadline.
What bidders are pricing
The procurement covers general construction, finishes, technical installations and related work for the hospital complex. The extension gives prospective bidders more time to submit proposals under the current procedure.
A base price is a ceiling or reference for the competition, not the final contract value. Bids still need evaluation, an award can be challenged and the works programme begins only after the necessary procurement and contractual steps.
Keep service planning separate
The project is important to Madeira's future health infrastructure, but patients should continue using the present referral, emergency and appointment routes. A tender deadline does not change where care is available today.
Future milestones should be judged from official procurement decisions, signed contracts and verified works progress. Repeated timetable changes make it particularly important not to treat a political estimate as a guaranteed opening.
What you can do now.
- 01
Follow the official procurement record after 13 October.
- 02
Use current health-service routes for care today.
- 03
Treat any opening date as provisional until formally confirmed.
