Madeira approves €32 million fuel-support package. The help is targeted, not a payment to every household
The regional package supports public transport, taxis, emergency and social organisations, Porto Santo bakeries and eligible business costs through several separate measures.

Archived 12 September 2026Residents and businesses need to distinguish measures intended to hold down prices from grants they can apply for directly.
- The measures run to 31 December 2026 and some apply retrospectively from 1 July.
- Fuel support is directed mainly through operators and eligible organisations rather than a universal household payment.
- Two business-support calls worth €24 million and €6.7 million are expected to open by the end of September.
- The separate Gás Solidário measure continues to offer €25 per bottle to qualifying low-income households.
Who the package is designed to support
The Regional Government's package covers defined costs for collective passenger transport, taxis, fire brigades, the Red Cross, SANAS, social-solidarity organisations and eligible Porto Santo bakery businesses. Each measure has its own limits and evidence requirements.
For Porto Santo bakeries and shops with a bakery section, the announced scheme can cover 90% of proven maritime transport costs for raw materials from 1 September to 31 December, up to €10,000 per beneficiary. That support is to be administered through the regional business-development institute.
What residents should watch
The transport support is intended to help avoid higher public-transport and taxi costs, but residents are not automatically entitled to the operator's fuel subsidy. Households should check the eligibility rules for Gás Solidário and any other scheme addressed directly to them.
Businesses should wait for the formal notices before treating an expense as eligible. The announced SI Funcionamento calls are expected by the end of September, and the final notice will control application dates, evidence and exclusions.
