Archived 12 September 2026The vehicle change improves the fleet but does not guarantee a departure or seat. Travellers should still check the live SIGA timetable and allow for flight or road disruption.
- Five of the eight new electric buses are assigned to Aerobus and three to Porto Santo.
- Each Aerobus vehicle is reported to carry 60 passengers plus luggage.
- The €5.2 million purchase received €2.7 million through Portugal's recovery plan.
The airport route is now using electric vehicles
The buses began journeys on 12 October. The operator reports 528 kWh batteries and estimates that the wider fleet change will avoid more than 850 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.
Those figures describe vehicle capacity and company estimates. Actual service depends on operations, traffic, passenger demand and the day's timetable.
Keep the airport connection practical
Check the SIGA service information before leaving and allow time between the scheduled arrival and airline check-in. Luggage space and seats can still be limited at busy times.
For an early, late or disrupted flight, confirm whether the Aerobus operates at the required time and keep a lawful alternative if the connection is too tight.
What you can do now.
- 01
Check the live SIGA timetable before travel.
- 02
Allow a buffer for road and airport disruption.
- 03
Keep an alternative for journeys outside operating hours.
