IN BRIEF

The situation can change quickly around both squares. People passing through should follow police directions and current transport or municipal notices rather than assume that access will remain the same all day.

  • The Lisbon group voted to continue its Rossio camp.
  • The Porto group also voted to remain in Praça D. João I.
  • Porto organisers extended their demonstration notice to 31 December, but that does not guarantee continuous occupation or unchanged access.
01

The overnight vote did not settle the operational position

Police told the groups to demobilise, while participants decided to continue. The reporting available at publication time did not establish a general closure of either square or a fixed end time.

A demonstration notice and a decision by participants are not the same as permission for every activity. Police and municipal instructions on the ground determine immediate access and public-order requirements.

02

Check the route, not only the protest headline

People with a timed appointment, hotel arrival, delivery or public-transport connection nearby should allow extra time and check live service information. Do not attempt to pass through a restricted area because an earlier route remained open.

Businesses and residents should use official local channels for access or waste-collection questions. Call 112 only for an immediate emergency.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Check live access and public-transport information before travelling.

  2. 02

Follow police and municipal directions around the squares.

  3. 03

Allow extra time for deliveries and fixed appointments nearby.
