IN BRIEF

Coverage and performance can still vary by operator, device, train movement and local load. The announcement is not a guarantee of uninterrupted service on every journey.

  • The completed phase covers the existing four Metro lines.
  • MEO led the infrastructure work with participation from other mobile operators.
  • A further phase is planned for future Metro extensions.
01

The existing network has been upgraded

The project covers 56 stations and approximately 44.5 kilometres of tunnel across the Blue, Yellow, Green and Red lines. It replaces older shared mobile infrastructure with equipment designed to support current services including 5G.

The announcement concerns network infrastructure. A passenger's actual service still depends on the participating operator, subscription, device and conditions at that moment.

02

Use connectivity as an aid, not a safety dependency

Travellers may see improved data and call performance, but should still download essential tickets or directions before entering where possible. Crowding, maintenance and a handset's radio settings can affect the result.

For an emergency, use station intercoms and staff instructions where mobile service is unavailable. Future extensions will require their own installation and commissioning work.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Update device network settings if 5G service is expected but absent.

  2. 02

Download essential journey information before travel.

  3. 03

Report persistent coverage faults to the mobile operator with line, station and time.
