Lisbon Marathon weekend brings special trains and changed city journeys
CP is running five extra early trains to Carcavelos on 10 October, while races on 10 and 11 October affect journeys along Lisbon's riverside and around Parque das Nações.

Archived 12 September 2026Participants gain extra rail options, but residents and visitors should expect busy stations, road controls and altered surface transport near the courses.
- Extra Cais do Sodré–Carcavelos trains leave at 06:10, 06:20, 06:40, 06:50 and 07:10 on 10 October.
- Registered participants can use Lisbon urban trains free with their race bib until 19:00 on 10 and 11 October.
- The half-marathon and 8K start access on 11 October uses organiser buses from Parque das Nações.
Rail options for runners
The special trains stop at every station between Cais do Sodré and Carcavelos. CP also offers a 30% return discount on specified long-distance and regional services to Lisbon between 9 and 12 October, subject to proof of registration.
Free urban-train travel is for participants presenting the bib. Other passengers still need the correct ticket or pass.
Plan for a changed city
The courses and crowd-control measures can alter road access, buses, taxis and parking. Use live operator information rather than an ordinary weekend journey time, especially along the waterfront and near Praça do Comércio.
For the 11 October starts, follow the organiser's access instructions. Build in time for queues and do not assume a private car can reach the start area.
