Lisbon's future airport plan needs more detail before the full application
The Government has asked ANA to develop its demand scenarios, runway configuration and expansion plan for the proposed Luís de Camões Airport at Alcochete.

Archived 12 September 2026The request advances design scrutiny but does not change today's airport or establish an earlier opening date.
- The proposed site remains the Alcochete firing range.
- ANA's current timetable points to operation in 2037.
- The Government wants the schedule brought forward where possible.
- The complete concession application is expected by January 2028.
What the Government wants clarified
The requested work covers different passenger-demand scenarios, runway and taxiway configuration, capacity for large aircraft, and a clearer strategy for expanding the terminal over time. ANA's interim design now proposes one terminal rather than the earlier terminal-and-satellite arrangement.
This is a review of an interim technical report, not approval of a finished airport. A financial report is due in January 2027 and the full application, including final versions of the interim reports, is expected in January 2028.
Do not plan a move around an opening promise
ANA's current programme envisages construction from 2030, completion by the end of 2036 and operation in 2037. The Government wants to shorten that timetable, but road, rail and other third-party infrastructure also affect delivery.

What you can do now.
- 01
Use current airport access when making a near-term decision.
- 02
Separate the interim design from the final concession application.
- 03
Watch official updates for confirmed milestones rather than target dates.
