Leixões mobile bridge reopens after a temporary mechanical problem
APDL says the problem affecting the bridge's northern deck has been resolved and the Matosinhos–Leça crossing has reopened to vehicles and pedestrians.
Archived after its publication day. Search retains this original briefing for background and accountability.
Archived 12 September 2026The bridge is in a wider 14-month modernisation programme, so future operational restrictions remain possible. Live APDL information should decide the journey.
- The 7 October closure followed a manoeuvring problem on the northern deck.
- APDL reported normal operation after the fault was resolved.
- The A28 remains the main alternative when the movable bridge is unavailable.
A same-day closure and reopening
The fault was detected during the ongoing rehabilitation project. APDL first directed road users to the A28 and later confirmed that vehicle and pedestrian access had resumed.
The reopening is the latest confirmed status, not a guarantee against another interruption during testing, ship movements or construction.
Plan for a movable structure under works
Before a time-critical trip, check APDL's bridge information and allow for the A28 alternative. Cyclists and pedestrians should confirm whether their crossing is open rather than assuming the road status applies identically.
Follow barriers and staff instructions if the bridge closes for a ship movement or maintenance. Do not enter after closure signals begin.
What you can do now.
- 01
Check APDL's live bridge status before a critical journey.
- 02
Keep the A28 alternative in the route plan.
- 03
Follow local closure signals and staff instructions.
