IN BRIEF

The result points to practical industrial capacity in the region, but a programme output is not automatically a profitable product or a job offer.

  • The programme reports 61 products, processes and services against an original target of 40.
  • Leiria district accounted for €54.17 million, or 66%, of the reported investment.
  • Some equipment is already being used by consortium partners.
  • Commercial adoption, sales and employment effects need to be assessed separately from project delivery.
01

What was delivered

The collaborative programme focused on additive manufacturing, the family of processes often described as industrial 3D printing. Its reported 61 outputs include equipment, production processes and services developed by consortium partners.

The concentration of investment in Leiria reflects the district's moulds, tooling and advanced-manufacturing base. It does not mean that every output was produced in one company or has the same stage of commercial readiness.

02

What local businesses should ask next

A manufacturer considering the technology should start with the part, material, volume, quality standard and total production cost. Additive manufacturing can be valuable for complex geometry, tooling and shorter runs, but it is not automatically cheaper than every conventional process.

Suppliers and jobseekers should look for the skills and procurement needs created by the participating companies rather than treating the programme total as a recruitment promise. The useful evidence will be repeat orders, new customers, exported work and equipment used beyond the funded project.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Identify the consortium output relevant to the business problem.

  2. 02

Compare total cost and quality with the current process.

  3. 03

Look for commercial use and repeat demand after the project.
