IN BRIEF

Drivers can use the enforcement snapshot as a prompt to check inspection, insurance, lights, child restraints and phone use before the next journey.

  • GNR reported 1,120 offences for missing periodic vehicle inspection, 678 for speeding and 501 for alcohol above the legal limit.
  • The same week included 344 insurance offences, 335 lighting or signalling defects and 253 mobile-phone offences.
  • The figures are provisional operational results for GNR activity, not the complete national road-safety total.
  • A foreign registration or recently purchased vehicle does not remove the need to confirm the rules that apply to it.
01

The practical check before driving

Confirm the inspection deadline from the vehicle's registration date and category, keep compulsory insurance active and make sure the registration and driver documents are valid for the journey. Test lights and indicators rather than waiting for a warning on the dashboard.

A child-restraint system must suit the child and be fitted correctly. Put the phone out of reach or use a lawful hands-free setup before moving; handling it while driving remains an offence even during a short local journey.

02

Read the numbers with the right boundary

The weekly release covers GNR operations across its jurisdiction. It is an enforcement snapshot and cannot be used to calculate the chance of being stopped or to claim that one region is safer than another.

Inspection and insurance problems can also affect liability and the ability to continue a journey after a roadside check. Resolve an expired or uncertain status before using the vehicle rather than relying on an appointment request or a seller's assurance.
