IN BRIEF

The specific repaired section has reopened, but that does not guarantee clear conditions across the whole EN8. Drivers should still check current incidents and weather.

  • The approximately €250,000 repair followed damage from extreme weather earlier in 2026.
  • Work rebuilt the road embankment, stabilised slopes, restored drainage, resurfaced the road and replaced safety equipment.
  • The temporary diversion used during construction has ended at the repaired section.
01

The emergency work has restored this section

The intervention repaired the road platform and supporting infrastructure rather than providing a temporary surface only. Infraestruturas de Portugal reports that the previous operating and safety conditions have been restored.

The completion notice applies to the work at kilometre 121.350. It should not be read as a statement about every section of the EN8 or every road affected by this year's severe weather.

02

Current conditions still matter

A reopened road can still face ordinary congestion, maintenance, collisions or weather-related restrictions. Check current road information if timing or vehicle access is critical.

Respect signed limits and any remaining roadside activity. If a navigation service still shows the old diversion, follow official signs and refresh the route when safely stopped.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Use the EN8 normally at the repaired Alcobaça section.

  2. 02

Check live road and weather information before a long trip.

  3. 03

Follow official signs if a navigation service shows the former diversion.
