IN BRIEF

The Alcanena section is open, but a separate EN243 closure remains around Alcaria in Porto de Mós. Drivers should not treat one reopening as clearance of the entire national road.

  • The repaired Alcanena section reopened on 16 October.
  • The work followed damage from the severe weather at the beginning of 2026.
  • Another EN243 section near Alcaria remains under intervention and closed.
01

The repaired point is open

Infraestruturas de Portugal confirms unrestricted circulation at km 28.8 after restoring the embankment and road platform. The closure had affected the link between Moitas Venda and Videla for about eight months.

A reopened section can still have changed verges, drainage or local approaches. Observe signs and do not assume old diversion habits remain the safest route.

02

A different EN243 project continues

Works between approximately km 8.54 and km 9.21 near Alcaria are a separate intervention in the Porto de Mós municipality. That closure and its signed diversion are not removed by the Alcanena reopening.

For a longer journey, check the complete route and current IP alerts rather than searching only for 'EN243 open'.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Use the reopened Alcanena section normally while following signs.

  2. 02

Check the separate Alcaria closure before a through journey.

  3. 03

Consult current IP road alerts for the full route.
