Covões' new health unit is nearly finished, but appointments remain at the current site for now

Construction of the new primary-care unit in Covões, Cantanhede, has entered its final stage. No confirmed opening date has been published, so patients should continue to use the current instructions until the health service announces the move.

IN BRIEF

Local patients can understand what is coming without arriving at a building that is not yet open for appointments.

  • The new unit is being created in the former library building and is reported to be in the final stage of construction.
  • The project is intended to replace inadequate premises and expand capacity from about 3,600 to 5,400 users.
  • The municipality's project sheet records total investment of €797653.72, including €698000 in eligible PRR funding.
  • A construction milestone is not an opening notice; patients should wait for the ULS or municipality to confirm the service transfer.
01

What the new unit is intended to improve

The project converts the former library into a modern primary-care unit with improved conditions for patients and staff. Municipal documents say the building is designed to reduce primary energy use and provide greater clinical capacity than the current premises.

A regional progress report describes the work as nearing completion. The municipality's older project sheet listed 30 June as the planned completion date, but that date has passed and should not be treated as proof that the service is open.

02

Where patients should go meanwhile

The existing service remains the practical reference until the responsible health authority announces the transfer, opening date and any change to appointments. Do not change a booked visit because the building appears finished from outside.

When the move is confirmed, check whether telephone numbers, access, parking or appointment times change. Anyone with a time-sensitive clinical need should contact the current unit rather than waiting for the new premises.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Keep using the current appointment instructions until an official opening notice is issued.

  2. 02

Check for a dated update from the municipality or ULS Coimbra before travelling to the new building.

  3. 03

Contact the existing service for an urgent scheduling or clinical question.
