Archived 12 September 2026People crossing the Mondego or using affected bus lines should allow extra time and choose a route before the closures begin.
- Traffic restrictions are scheduled broadly from 08:00 to 18:30 on Sunday, 20 September.
- The Santa Clara bridge and several riverside roads are among the affected corridors.
- SMTUC services will use diversions and the Botânico 244 service is cancelled for the day.
- Parking controls begin before the competition and affect designated event areas from 18 to 20 September.
The crossing and riverside route need extra planning
The competition course uses the Santa Clara bridge and roads on both sides of the Mondego. Published restrictions affect Avenida Emídio Navarro, Parque Verde and other riverside connections, with police managing access and reopening as conditions permit.
A road may reopen later than a personal estimate if the course is still active. Drivers should follow temporary signs and officers rather than trying to enter a controlled section from a side street.
Bus users should check the Sunday diversion
Several SMTUC lines will be diverted around the course and the Botânico 244 service is cancelled. A usual stop may therefore be suspended or served from a temporary location.
Check the current SMTUC notice before leaving, especially for a health appointment, rail connection or work shift. Walking across an affected area may also take longer because spectator and athlete zones have controlled crossing points.
What you can do now.
- 01
Check the municipal traffic map and the SMTUC notice for your exact route.
- 02
Move a parked vehicle before the published restriction begins.
- 03
Allow extra time for a Mondego crossing or rail connection.
