IN BRIEF

The project adds public housing stock, but it is not a general application opening and allocation remains a separate municipal process.

  • The completed phase contains 33 T2 municipal homes.
  • The reported investment is about €6 million.
  • A second phase covers 21 homes: 18 T3, two T4 and one T2.
  • Completion of building work does not itself create an open tenancy application.
01

What has been delivered

Fonte do Castanheiro is a long-established municipal neighbourhood in Santo António dos Olivais. The completed work rebuilt or rehabilitated 33 homes, including thermal improvements and renewed building systems, under the 1.º Direito housing programme.

The municipality also has 21 further homes under rehabilitation in the neighbourhood, with a reported investment of around €3 million. The two phases should not be counted as 54 newly available homes today.

02

Housing allocation follows its own rules

Municipal housing is allocated through eligibility and priority procedures, not simply by contacting a construction project. People needing support should use Coimbra's current housing channel and provide truthful household, income and residence information.

For neighbours, the practical effects include returning homes to use and ongoing works in the area. Confirm access or disruption locally rather than assuming the whole neighbourhood is complete.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Use Coimbra's official housing service for eligibility questions.

  2. 02

Do not pay anyone who claims to sell access to a municipal home.

  3. 03

Check current works and access directly with the municipality.
