IN BRIEF

Residents and visitors can pair live music with several of Coimbra's major heritage settings, but access and ticket arrangements differ by event.

  • The programme began on 20 September and continues through 27 September.
  • Events use four distinct historic and cultural venues.
  • The cello is the central instrument, with concerts and related activities across the week.
  • Check the individual listing for ticket, registration and venue-access conditions.
01

Why the venues matter

Coimbra À Corda places cello performance in buildings with different histories and acoustics, from the university's Biblioteca Joanina to Sé Velha and the two monastic and cultural spaces across the city. The result is a route through Coimbra as well as a music programme.

Not every event has the same audience, duration or admission rule. A festival pass, a free activity and a ticketed concert should not be assumed to work in the same way.

02

Build a practical evening

Confirm the precise entrance and start time because the venues are in different parts of Coimbra and some have controlled heritage access. Allow additional time for hills, parking, public transport and finding the correct door.

Historic venues can have limited step-free access or fixed seating. Contact the organiser ahead of time if mobility, hearing or another access need affects the visit.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

Ask about accessibility before travelling if needed.

  4. 04

Allow time to move between Coimbra's historic areas.
