What is being offered
Barcelos is joining European Mobility Week with free travel on its TUBA urban and municipal bus network from Wednesday 16 September through Tuesday 22 September. The announced daily period runs from 07:00 until 20:30.
The programme is intended to encourage residents to combine different ways of getting around. It also gives people considering Barcelos a useful chance to test the network with an ordinary destination rather than judging it from a map.
Check the line, not only the headline
TUBA's urban and municipal routes are the services named in the announcement. Do not assume that an intercity coach, train, taxi or another operator is included because it serves the same area.
Confirm the exact stop, direction and last return before leaving. Rural frequency can make the difference between a workable journey and a long wait, even when the fare is free.
A good week for a real-life transport test
Choose one journey you would make regularly: work, school, a health appointment, the market or the rail station. Time the walk to the stop, the wait, the ride and the final connection. Repeat it in the opposite direction at the hour you would normally return.
Record where shelter, lighting, pavement quality or a timetable gap changes the experience. Those details matter more to daily life than the number of routes shown at the centre of Barcelos.
What happens after 22 September
The free period ends with Mobility Week unless the municipality announces an extension. Normal fares and ticket rules should therefore be expected from 23 September.
If the test works, compare the ordinary pass or fare with fuel, parking and time. A mixed routine—bus for some journeys and car for others—may be more realistic than trying to replace every trip at once.
