IN BRIEF

The process could reshape regional public transport, but it is a procurement stage and does not yet replace the current routes or timetable.

  • The planned concession runs for eight years.
  • It covers 13 municipalities; Odemira is outside this tender.
  • Bids are due by 16 November 2026.
  • Current passengers should keep using the existing operator information until a transition is announced.
01

What the tender covers

The competition combines regular regional services with a reserve of vehicle-kilometres that can respond to network needs. Requirements address vehicles, environmental performance, ticketing and passenger information.

The base value is €15,086,225.65. That is a procurement ceiling and not a fare forecast or a promise that every village will gain a direct route.

02

What happens before passengers see a change

Bids must be assessed, a contract awarded and any challenge or transition completed. Only then can the authority and operator publish confirmed routes, fares, stops and start dates.

Residents can use the process to identify unmet needs, but should keep checking the current network for work, school and healthcare journeys until an official change is published.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Use today's operator timetable for current journeys.

  2. 02

Follow CIMBAL for award and transition notices.

  3. 03

Recheck routes, fares and tickets only when the new service is confirmed.
