Student housing is expanding at the University of the Azores
New university residences are being added in Horta, Ponta Delgada and Angra do Heroísmo. Applications for 2026/27 accommodation opened through Infoestudante on 10 August, but the university’s public capacity figures are not yet consistent across its pages.

Three islands, one expansion programme
The University of the Azores has been building or opening new residence capacity in Horta on Faial, Ponta Delgada on São Miguel and Angra do Heroísmo on Terceira. The programme was designed to add 270 beds: 50 in Horta, 120 in Ponta Delgada and 100 in Angra.
A regional report says Horta is already occupied and the other two new buildings are due to receive students in early September. Treat those opening dates as operational targets until the university confirms the individual allocation.
The public totals do not yet line up
The university’s current accommodation page says four residences can house 450 students and that two further residences will be available soon. That presentation does not match every total reported elsewhere for the completed expansion.
This does not mean the beds are fictitious. It means a student should not use one headline figure to assume that a room, island or opening date is guaranteed. Ask which residence is accepting allocations and whether the room is ready for the arrival date.
Apply through the university channel
The 2026/27 accommodation page says applications opened on 10 August through Infoestudante. Residence places are intended first for students whose financial support, distance or transport circumstances prevent them from living with their household during the academic year.
If an application is already submitted, keep the confirmation and monitor the university account. If the placement is on another island, do not book a non-refundable journey until the residence, check-in date and payment conditions are clear.
