Archived 12 September 2026Households and businesses on the islands should update October transport costs, while checking the official order for the final product and island rules.
- The new maximum prices take effect on 1 October.
- 95-octane petrol is set at €1.92 per litre.
- Road diesel is set at €1.94 per litre.
- The change affects regulated maximum prices, not every household's total transport cost in the same way.
What changes in October
The regional price update raises the maximum retail price of the main road fuels after several monthly increases. The reported movement varies by product, with rises of roughly five to seven cents a litre.
The Azores use a regional regulated-price system. Mainland pump comparisons are therefore not the right benchmark for deciding whether an island retailer is applying the current ceiling.
Update the monthly travel budget
Estimate litres rather than only kilometres: vehicle efficiency, steep routes, traffic and inter-island arrangements all change the result. A household using 80 litres a month would feel a six-cent increase as about €4.80 before any change in usage.
Businesses should update quotes or delivery assumptions only where their contracts allow it. Keep fuel, vehicle maintenance, ferry movement and staff time as separate cost lines.
What you can do now.
- 01
Check the regional order when the October prices take effect.
- 02
Recalculate the budget using expected litres, not a national average.
- 03
Keep fuel and other transport costs separate in business quotes.
