The Azores has approved €3 million in temporary farm support
The regional government has authorised temporary aid for fertiliser and marked agricultural diesel costs in the second quarter of 2026. The published decision sets the rates and a €3 million ceiling, but not a complete payment timetable for every farmer.
Azorean farmers can identify the reference periods and rates while waiting for the implementing instructions needed to confirm an individual payment.
- The support has a regional budget ceiling of €3 million, financed through transfers from the national treasury.
- Fertiliser compensation is set at €12 per eligible hectare, €10 per eligible suckler cow, €12 per eligible dairy cow and €1.50 per eligible sheep or goat.
- Fuel support is set at €0.11 per litre of agricultural and marked diesel used from 1 April to 30 June 2026.
- Eligibility references the 2025 Azores Single Application and the 2025 POSEI animal campaign; the announcement does not by itself confirm when each payment will arrive.
What the council decision authorises
The Regional Government Council authorised the agriculture department to provide exceptional, temporary support following higher fuel and fertiliser costs in the second quarter of 2026. The decision implements aid announced by the national government in July.
The rates use land, livestock and fuel records rather than a flat payment to every farm. That means the €3 million ceiling is the programme maximum, not the amount any individual business should expect.
What farmers still need to know
The public announcement identifies the calculation bases but does not set out a complete application, validation and payment calendar. Farmers should keep the relevant fuel records and make sure the 2025 campaign data used as the reference is accurate.
Do not treat an estimated amount as received income until the regional authority confirms eligibility and procedure. If a farm changed operator or livestock profile after the reference campaign, ask the agriculture service how the published rules apply before making a financial commitment.
