Six potential buyers move to the next stage of the Azores Airlines sale
SATA Holding has invited six of the eight interested parties that passed its first review to submit non-binding offers for at least 75% of Azores Airlines.

Archived 12 September 2026The process matters to island connectivity and public finances, but it does not yet identify a buyer or change any published passenger booking.
- Six entities have been invited to submit non-binding offers in the current privatisation process.
- The sale concerns at least 75% of SATA Internacional–Azores Airlines, not the inter-island airline SATA Air Açores.
- A non-binding offer is an intermediate step; no winning bidder or completed sale has been announced.
What has moved forward
SATA Holding says six entities met the initial suitability and financial-capacity requirements and have now been invited to submit non-binding proposals. Eight expressions of interest had been received for the airline earlier in September.
The procedure is for the sale of at least 75% of SATA Internacional–Azores Airlines. The official terms require a financial proposal, a business plan and information about capitalisation, employment stability and the bidder's ability to operate the airline.
What this does not mean for passengers
This stage does not amount to a sale and does not reveal the final ownership, timetable or operational plan. Non-binding proposals are assessed before any later binding-offer and approval stages.
Existing passengers should continue to use the airline's normal booking, flight-status and disruption channels. Do not treat speculation about a bidder as confirmation that a route, fare or ticket condition has changed.
What you can do now.
- 01
Use SATA's official notices for confirmed milestones in the sale process.
- 02
Check individual flights through the ordinary flight-status channel.
- 03
Separate Azores Airlines developments from SATA Air Açores inter-island operations.
