IN BRIEF

Storage is healthier than last year, but it does not remove long-term supply pressure or justify wasteful use.

  • The six main reservoirs were at about 74% of combined capacity.
  • Stored volume was around 328 million cubic metres.
  • That was about 13 million cubic metres more than a year earlier.
  • A regional percentage does not show the condition of every reservoir or local supply.
01

A stronger starting position

The APA and national reservoir-monitoring data show a better aggregate position as the hydrological year changes. Recent rainfall and previous management have lifted stored volume compared with late September 2025.

The six reservoirs have different capacities and catchments, so one combined percentage can hide local variation. Groundwater, treatment capacity, demand and network losses also affect water security.

02

Efficiency still matters

Households and businesses should continue repairing leaks, choosing appropriate irrigation times and following any municipal restrictions. A fuller reservoir is not permission to ignore an unusually high bill or visible loss.

Investment decisions should use the current supplier and authority data for the exact area. A regional headline cannot guarantee a new connection, agricultural allocation or future planning approval.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

What you can do now.

  1. 01

Check the supplier or municipality for local restrictions.

  2. 02

Investigate unexplained consumption and repair leaks.

  3. 03

Use current authority data for any water-dependent investment.
