AIMA staff strike may disrupt immigration appointments across Portugal today
A nationwide strike called by the Migration Technicians' Union runs from 00:00 to 24:00 today and may affect AIMA services.
Archived after its publication day. Search retains this original briefing for background and accountability.
Archived 12 September 2026The strike does not prove that every office is closed or every appointment cancelled. Check the status of your own appointment and keep evidence of any disruption.
- The strike notice covers 6 October from 00:00 to 24:00.
- The practical effect may differ by office, team and service.
- An official cancellation or attendance record matters more than a general report.
A national stoppage with local effects
The Migration Technicians' Union has called a national strike for workers within its statutory scope at the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum. Current reporting confirms the date and full-day period, but no public service-by-service closure list was available at publication time.
That boundary matters. A national strike can reduce staffing and delay appointments without closing every AIMA location or cancelling every booking in advance.
Protect the record of your case
Check the AIMA channel linked to the appointment before travelling, but do not abandon a valid booking solely because a strike has been reported. If practical and safe, follow the written appointment instruction unless AIMA tells you otherwise.
Keep the appointment confirmation, screenshots of official messages and evidence that you attended or could not be served. If the appointment is affected, request the next instruction through an official channel rather than paying an unverified intermediary for a replacement slot.
What you can do now.
- 01
Check AIMA's official messages for your office and appointment.
- 02
Keep confirmation, travel evidence and any cancellation notice.
- 03
Use an official AIMA channel to request the next step if service is unavailable.
