The Abrantes wildfire is controlled, but crews remain on the ground
The fire that began near Mouriscas and reached the neighbouring municipality of Mação was declared controlled shortly before 01:00 on Sunday. Two minor injuries were reported and both people had recovered.

The overnight change
The wildfire near Mouriscas, in Abrantes municipality, was declared controlled just before one o’clock on Sunday morning. The fire had also reached Mação, drawing a large response through Saturday.
The reported injuries were minor and the two people had recovered. No further medical consequence should be inferred from the early operational update.
Controlled is a technical stage
A controlled fire is no longer spreading beyond the established perimeter under the prevailing conditions. Crews may still be extinguishing hot spots, patrolling the edge and dealing with reactivations.
Smoke can reduce visibility and emergency vehicles may still use local roads. Residents should follow municipal and Civil Protection instructions even when the main headline says the fire is controlled.
Travelling through the area
Check the route immediately before departure and leave room for local diversions. Do not stop on a road shoulder to photograph burned ground or active crews, and never enter a closed road because a navigation app still displays it.
Anyone returning to a property near the perimeter should wait for local clearance and look for damaged lines, unstable trees and hidden heat before resuming normal outdoor work.
